James #9 Inside Sickness Outside Prayer
L-T Hopper on Sunday, November 28th, 2010

Speaker: L-T Hopper
Passage: James 5:13-20

As Christians we need to be told repeatedly the most basic and obvious instructions. Even ones that are necessary for our Christian life like praying. Although we know that prayer is basic and essential for the survival of our relationship with God we don’t pray.

In James 5:13-20 James reminds us that in any and every situation we are to pray.

James #8 Inside Knowledge Outside Trusting
L-T Hopper on Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Speaker: L-T Hopper
Passage: James 4:13 – 5:11

The content of your prayers reflects what you believe. As you listen in on the prayer of Jesus in the garden before His death you hear him submitting to the will of the Father. If we listened in on your prayers would we hear you submitting your life to the will of the Father?

God is in control so we should submit our lives to His will. We should take comfort in the coming of Jesus or warning if necessary and be patient as we wait for His return.

James #7 Inside Desires Outside Fights
L-T Hopper on Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Speaker: L-T Hopper
Passage: James 4:1-10

Where do fights come from? A battle that is going on inside of everyone of us. We want selfish gain. We want earthly pleasure. When you are fighting don’t go looking for a source somewhere else.  It is not your circumstances or even other people…

James #6 Inside Wisdom Outside Submission
L-T Hopper on Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Speaker: L-T Hopper
Passage: James 3:13-18

James 3 is saying a person of wisdom is characterised by good deeds done in humility.

The theme for the book of James is :-Living on the outside what you know on the inside.

We are saved by faith but saving faith is never alone it always produces works. James has been highlighting what some of those crucial works are. Like helping those in need. Like how you use your tongue. Tongue is the way it is because of the source. How do you fix the source? Wisdom.

James #3 Inside Belief Outside Love
L-T Hopper on Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Speaker: L-T Hopper
Passage: James 2:1-13

As a church our mission statement is:- Living for Jesus by making, maturing and mobilising disciples of Jesus.

We are called to live for Jesus by doing what he says. We hope to have an impact in the lives of people we know by living for Jesus. We hope to have an impact on the Sunshine Coast by living for Jesus. We hope to have an impact on the world by living for Jesus. We will not if we don’t act on what we know.

James is appealing to you and commanding you. He is appealing to you as believers in the Risen King Jesus not to show favouritism but love your neighbour.

What Prompted James to Write?
Guest on Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Speaker: Alan Stanley.

Passage: James Overview

As we embark on studying this book together we invited Alan Stanley (pastor and lecturer) to lay the foundation of the book for us to build on over the coming weeks… The basic message of James is, don’t run from trials but rejoice for they have a sanctifying effect (1:2-15) and be patient until the Lord comes who will deal justly with those who are making your life hard (5:7-11).
