Passage: Acts 28
Right from the beginning of Acts we see that the Apostles had a job to do. The job of helping others come to know Jesus. Right from the beginning they didn’t leave it to someone else. Even when it was hard which was all the time. It was because Jesus has a job to do. Seeing people hear the Gospel and turn to him.
We see in Acts the work of Jesus continuing – the unstoppable Gospel being preached. This work is to be continued through his people.

Will the tough times ever end for Paul? Will there ever be a time when there is comfort, security and prosperity?
NO. God’s messenger is no immune from tough times. They are promised tough times.
If you follow Jesus you are called to a life of discomfort, physical insecurity and poverty. I know you may not think that because that not what our lives look like but that is an indictment on us.
Paul’s life is an example of what it means to follow Jesus.

We’re picking up where we left off last week. Another trial for the Apostle Paul. He’s gone to Jerusalem and been falsely accused. He’s been in front of a lynch mob, he’s been slapped around by the Jewish Sanhedrin; and because Jerusalem is under the Roman empire, he’s passed on for trial to the Roman governor. First Felix. Then when two years later Felix moves on, Governor Festus. And Festus is perplexed. Because for the life of him, he can’t see the problem.

The Gospel is like the captain of the ship. It gives us our bearing and steers us the right way. Even a small change can result in a different destination. Turning the ship a few degrees at the beginning of the trip can mean the difference between arriving in England or Spain.

The Gospel has begun to move out from Jerusalem. In chapter 12 the Gospel comes under siege. It seems as though the Gospel will be brought to a grinding halt but we’ll see that… Jesus is King so no force can stop the spread of His gospel
