Light!
Stefan Koebsch on Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The verse Shane mentioned in communion this morning is an amazing verse as it provides a summary of the gospel:

“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor 4:6)

It was a key verse in the ministry of Jonathan Edwards who preached a famous sermon called, “A Divine and Supernatural Light, Immediately Imparted to the Soul by the Spirit of God, Shown to be both a Scriptural, and Rational Doctrine.” (Don’t you love those long titles!).

Here are two great introductory article by Sam Storms on the passage:
a divine and supernatural light
observations on a divine and supernatural light

If you’re more ambitious and want to actually read Edwards sermon yourself you can find it here:

However, I recommend watching John Piper instead as he actually re-preaches the sermon back in 2003 at the Edwards memorial conference!

ESV Study Bible
Stefan Koebsch on Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Most of you are already aware of the fantastic new ESV Study Bible but you may not have seen the promotional videos, which include interviews with Mark Driscoll, JI Packer, John Piper and a number of others. They also have a panel discussion from a conference chaired by Justin Taylor that is good. I recommend watching them all – there is a link at the bottom of the page:

There is also a reading plan for getting through all the articles in a year:
